CARIBANA

Inspired by the  Canadian Caribbean carnival held in Toronto, Canada. This colourful musical epic drama shares the lives of 4 immigrant women from various Caribbean diasporas united together for the love and spirit of Carnival. Set in the late 1960s, in an era of loosening morals, glittering calypso, and political change. Aspiring beautician Vashtina leaves Jamaica and travels to Toronto, Canada in the spring of 1967. Chasing the new immigrant dream, Vashtina ends up moonlighting in a pipe factory to earn extra money to build her dream salon. While working the night shift she meets fellow Caribbean women who each have a story to share on their trials and tribulations in their new found home. Through them, Vashtina is drawn into uniting the expatriate-Caribbean nationals living in Canada to celebrate their culture and contribution by staging a grand parade that Canada has ever seen.
